2016 Honda Civic Sedan
While all eyes were on Germany’s Frankfurt Auto Show this week, back in the United States Honda unveiled its all-new, 10th-generation Civic. This video contains highlights from the car’s launch event held in Los Angeles on Wednesday night.
The new Civic arrives in showrooms this fall, as a 2016 model and initially in the Civic Sedan bodystyle only. A new Civic Coupe will follow in the winter and sometime next year we’ll see a five-door Civic hatch arrive.
The hatch is based on the Civic model sold overseas, which has already spawned a high-performance Type R variant. However, it’s no longer thought that the hatch will be the basis for the Type R destined for the U.S. market. Instead, ours is likely to be based on the sedan bodystyle and possibly the coupe as well.
Most Civics will be sourced from plants in Greensburg, Indiana and Alliston, Ontario. However, the hatchback was recently confirmed to be coming from the United Kingdom. Two powertrains have been announced. Both are four-cylinder units with direct fuel injection and turbocharging. The smaller engine displaces 1.5 liters and will be available exclusively with a CVT. The larger unit is a 2.0-liter and will be available with either a six-speed manual or CVT.
More details on the 2016 Honda Civic range should be announced at the car’s official debut at this November’s Los Angeles Auto Show.
