In case you missed it, the 2016 Acura NSX is this year’s official pace car for the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. We’ve been waiting a long time to see and hear the revived NSX in action outside of test tracks like the Nurburgring, and this monumental demonstration has us as amped as ever for the upcoming Japanese supercar. With the Colorado crowd all around, the 2016 Acura NSX definitely garnered a lot of attention in its black, white, and red pace car livery. Once the green flag gets waved, the hybrid supercar takes off with gusto, its twin-turbo V-6 engine and three electric motors roaring and whirring. All four wheels dig into the pavement, and the NSX launches through the starting banner, the rear end slightly kicking out around the first turn.

Honda Senior Public Relations manager Sage Marie, and Pikes Peak racing veteran, was the man behind the wheel, and he confirmed just how marvelous the experience was. “It was awesome to have access to the car for two days,” Marie told AUTOMOBILE. “Everyone recognizes the NSX, so it was like traveling with a celebrity. It’s an inspiring, unbridled enthusiasm that exists for the car.” Although the 2016 Acura NSX pace car is not a final production car, Marie was able to report that the NSX was ideally suited to the International Hill Climb. Not only was the sound of the twin-turbo V-6 a delightful, visceral soundtrack from both inside and outside the cabin, but the car’s instantaneous torque from its electric motors made it perfect for powering out of slow corners.
