The first half of the 2016 has almost come to an end and the Indian automotive market has seen some very interesting models going on sale, apart from the promising ones shown at the 2016 Auto Expo. For the month of May, automakers have lined up some very interesting offerings with the all-new and much awaited Toyota Innova Crysta hitting the showrooms. However, there is still a lot more to go and here are the cars and two-wheelers that you need to watch out for.
1. Toyota Innova Crysta – May 2
Launched earlier this week, the new generation Toyota Innova was long in the pipeline ever since it was showcased at the expo this year. The new model not only boasts of better and more muscular styling, but gets an equally upgraded cabin, new features and is based on a completely new platform. In addition to the new tech wizardry on board, the 2016 Innova also received the suffix ‘Crysta’ to its name, two new diesel engines, transmission options and a price hike.
2) Honda BR-V – May 5
Late to the compact SUV party, Honda Cars India (HCIL) will finally introduce the Brio based BR-V on May 5 that will be taking on a host of offerings including the highly popular Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and the likes in the segment. To be available in 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engine options, the BR-V boasts of a muscular front profile, while the side profile is a give away of its association with the Mobilio. Nevertheless, the compact SUV is a 7-seater and that gives it an edge over the competition. Having driven the BR-V recently, we feel pricing will be a key factor in the success of Honda’s latest offering, which will has some very aggressive offerings.
3) Lamborghini Huracan Spyder – May 5
While a the initial products on the list are targeted towards more mass market buyers, the affluent also have a reason to visit their nearest car dealerships. Also making its debut on May 5 will be the Lamborghini Huracan Spyder LP 610-4, the drop-top version of the Italian automaker’s mid-engined, two-door coupe. The replacement to the Gallardo Spyder, the Huracan convertible is powered by the same 5.2-litre V10 engine that produces 602bhp of power at 8250rpm and 560Nm of peak torque available at 6500rpm. The mammoth of a motor is paired to a 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. Being the hot Italian super car it is, 0-100 km/h comes up in just 3.4 seconds, while the Huracan Spyder is capable of hitting a top speed of 324 km/h.
4) MV Agusta – May 9
Those looking for power on two-wheels, Italian superbike maker MV Agusta will be officially commencing its Indian operations on May 9 in the country. The company first established its presence in the country late last year and has since then pushing its exotic motorcycles including the Brutale 1090, F4 and F4 RR, as well as the F3 800. The Brutale 800 is also lined up for launch later this year in India. MV Agusta’s motorcycles are being brought in the country via the CBU route and pose as competition to the offerings from Ducati and Aprilia.
5) 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLS – May 18
One of the 12 launches planned for India during the 2016 calendar year, Mercedes-Benz will be introducing the 2017 GLS facelift in the country on May 18. The GLS is essentially the outgoing GL-Class sold in the country, but with several upgrades and gets the updated name under the brand’s new nomenclature. The flagship SUV comes with get and updated grille and headlamps inspired from the new generation S-Class, while tail lights, front and rear bumpers also gets tweaked. The interior has been updated more luxurious interior. The German automaker has also production of the GLS 350 at its Pune based facility. Prices are expected to witness a marginal hike over the outgoing version.
