The 1.5-liter turbo engine makes 174 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque and is currently only available with a CVT, a decision that enthusiasts have been decrying since it was revealed. When the manual turbo arrives, it will be available on all three Civic bodstyles: coupe, hatchback and sedan.
At the recent media launch for the Honda Civic Coupe, AutoGuide.com road test editor Mike Schlee had a chance to sample the six-speed manual hooked up to the turbo engine in a development prototype. “Throws are medium-short, engagement smooth and the clutch predictable,” said Schlee. “But most importantly, it adds new life to the turbocharged engine while heightening the engagement and fun-to-drive factor exponentially.”
A timeline for when the manual turbo combination will arrive has not been offered yet by Honda.
