The Honda S-Dream is not your regular Japanese car – as we can very well see – and the Bonneville salt flats record breaker has been equipped with a turbocharged three-cylinder engine.

Exceeding speeds of 260 miles per hour (418.4 kilometers per hour), existing production hypercars such as the Hennessey Venom GT or the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport need behemoth power generators worth north of 1,000 horsepower. Instead, the S-Dream opted for a purposely built aerodynamic body that just nailed a FIA class record on the Bonneville Salt Flats by climbing to almost 262 mph (418.4 kph) in a vehicle equipped with a 660-cubic-centimeter turbocharged three cylinder.

The official count for the S-Dream was of 261.875 mph (421.45 kph) over a mile and 261.966 mph (421.59 kph) over a kilometer – turning the vehicle into the quickest Honda ever. The crew started out in 2015 on the Bonneville Speed Challenge and they wanted a land speed record with an engine taken from the measly Honda S660 roadster, which has just 64 hp in its regular guise. Honda didn’t put an exact figure, but it said it’s more than three times –so we’re looking at around 200 hp.
