There’s More Good And Bad News About The US Honda Civic Type R

Honda giveth and Honda taketh when it comes to US-spec Type R. Honda captured our curiosity with the announcement of a
North American Civic Type-R and now it has our attention with the news of its
release date. In short: expect to wait a long time if you want to get your hands on one. How long are we talking? John Mendel, Honda’s executive vice president in the US, told AutoGuide the
wait could stretch until 2018. He went on to say that he hopes the wait isn’t
that long but provided no other details regarding the release.

Waiting until 2018 for a Civic Type-R would be a giant pain
for sure. The 10th-generation Civic should help make the wait bearable with its
focus on performance. Still, it’s a bit crappy to tell everyone that the Type R
is coming and then give a potential release date that’s three years down the
road. How damn hard is it to get the hot hatch from the UK (where it’s made) to
the US?There is some good news, as Mendel confirmed there would be
no sales cap, saying “I hope we could sell a couple thousand a month.” What
year that month will be in remains to be seen.
