Shanghai LIVE: Honda Concept D
Honda revealed its Concept D SUV in Shanghai Monday, previewing a full-size SUV model that will be sold exclusively in that market.
Currently in development, the new SUV will be sold by Guangqi Honda and Dongfeng Honda and positioned as a new flagship model of Honda in China.
The Concept D’s styling is a blend of upscale Japanese and European design. Up front, Acura-style jewel LED headlights flank a prominent, body-colored shield atop a blacked-out grille. On either side, fog lamps frame large, blanked out air inlets which are mirrored in the rear by aero- and cooling-themed elements.
The greenhouse evokes modern Range Rovers, with an aggressive rake and a fast rear taper reminiscent of the Acura ZDX and BMW X6, forsaking a bit of practicality for style.
Like most manufacturers, Honda has embraced localization in the Chinese market. Seiji Kuraishi, President of HMCI, said, “Including this Concept D, which is a proposal for a new value that only Honda can provide as the pioneer of the SUV market in China, we would like to continue providing attractive products equipped with our advanced technologies to our customers in China. Toward this end, we will accelerate the localization of our business in China.”
Further details on the Concept D should come to light as Honda announces production plans. Stay tuned to Leftlane for the latest updates.
