In 2015 during the Auto Shanghai the Japanese automaker premiered the Concept D model which served as a preview of a possible flagship crossover for the largest auto market in the world.

Now the latest report brings to the attention a trademark filling in China which has reserved the UR-V moniker, with the rumor mill pointing to the production version of the flagship SUV to wear the new nameplate. Apparently Honda will have a China-only flagship crossover that will reach dealerships somewhere during the fourth quarter of the year. The model will have midsize dimensions and is hinted to be unveiled in its production body during the Beijing Motor Show kicking off next month. The Concept D wasn’t exactly the most astonishing Honda model but apparently spy photographs have revealed the production prototypes have been upgraded and feature a way less radical styling language.

There are little details to go with aside from Honda noting it would deploy “advanced safety technologies and other advanced features” and that production duties would be handled at the Guangzhou-Honda joint venture. Other information includes possible powertrains: naturally-aspirated 2.4-liter and turbocharged 2.0-liter engines mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox. All wheel drive will also be offered, but only as an amenity for the more upscale versions. Pricing wise , the model is expected to kick off at approximately 250,000 yuan (about $38,400) and then rocket to 425,000 yuan ($65,200) for the priciest version.
