It appears, according to the latest rumors, the tenth generation Honda Civic is getting ready to make its worldwide public debut on September 16 in both Detroit and Los Angeles.

The concept version of the 2016 Civic appeared – unexpectedly – this year during the 2015 New York auto show and it appears the Japanese are completely ignoring the Frankfurt motor show even though the upcoming Civic will be a global model – not one modified for European and American preferences as it is now. Never mind the trials and tribulations of world politics (Honda’s in this case), we should concentrate on what we know about the crucial compact model. The 2016 Civic rides on a completely new platform and will make use of turbocharged engines, something that Honda has avoided in the past fervently. The September 16 simultaneous Detroit and Los Angeles debut will have the sedan version front and center, with the coupe variant coming out later on.

The standard guise for the new Civic will have under the hood the new 1.5-liter turbocharged VTEC four-cylinder that should be produced on US soil and then the performance-crazy models Si and Type R will employ in various state of tune the 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder already seen on the current European-spec Civic Type R. Next to the coupe version the hatchback is also expected to make a return in America after a long hiatus, with the design being more upscale and inspired by the latest styling developments of the Acura luxury brand. Inside the cabin we’ll find Honda’s new infotainment system with touchscreen display and a host of active safety systems and features taken from the upscale brand.
