Redesigned Lincoln MKX earns Top Safety Pick Plus award
Lincoln’s redesigned MKX has received a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
The crossover earned ‘good’ marks in each of the institute’s crash scenarios, including the challenging small-overlap test. The previous generation also earned ‘good’ ratings in the moderate overlap, front, side, roof strength and head restraint evaluations, but had never been put through the small-overlap trial.
“The 2016 MKX aced the small overlap test, with maximum intrusion of 4 inches at the lower door hinge pillar,” the IIHS said in a statement. “he dummy’s movement was well-controlled. Its head hit the front airbag and stayed there until rebound, and the side curtain airbag deployed with sufficient coverage to protect the head from contact with the side structure or outside objects.”
Lincoln’s optional automatic emergency braking system earned a perfect score in the IIHS evaluations, completely avoiding collisions at 12 mph and 25 mph.
Other Top Safety Pick+ rivals in the luxury crossover segment include the Acura MDX, Infiniti QX60, Lexus RX, Lincoln MKX, Volvo XC90, Acura RDX, Volvo XC60, Lexus NX and Audi Q5.
