Redesigned Honda Odyssey Heading To Detroit 2017

If Honda‘s new Odyssey looks anything like the concept image, we’re sold.

With the 2017 Detroit Auto Show just around the corner, manufacturers are already starting to tease some of the new models we can expect to be revealed. Ahead of the show, Honda has announced it will take the wraps off the new Odyssey minivan. The Japanese automaker said the fifth-generation 2018 model has been completely redesigned with “new powertrain technology, sophisticated styling and will showcase a new suite of innovative features, making it the ultimate in family-friendly design and packaging.”

No official images have been released other than a teaser sketch of the minivan, along with four teaser drawings from some of the Odyssey Development Team’s children in Ohio. “We wanted to have a bit of fun by sharing some of the drawings from children of the Odyssey team members, since they were inspirational in shaping the family-friendly direction of the all-new Odyssey,” said Chad Harrison, chief engineer at Honda R&D America and the development leader of the new Odyssey. The radical redesign (although not as radical as this 1,000-hp badass) is hoped to improve sales of the struggling Odyssey, which are currently lower than 120,000 for the first time in the US since 2011.

The sleek new design shown in the concept certainly looks promising, but how closely this will match the final model remains to be seen. At least we won’t have long to wait, as the Detroit Auto Show kicks off on January 9.
