New Volkswagen Tiguan SUV spied undisguised
These are the first-seen undisguised spy shots of the next-gen Volkswagen Tiguan SUV. Volkswagen will showcase the new Tiguan at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show 2015.
The new Tiguan looks sharper and more upmarket than the model it will replace internationally. As expected, this SUV resembles the larger Volkswagen Cross Blue Coupé concept SUV seen earlier. The model seen in these images looks like the standard wheelbase five-seater version in top trim, with a large sunroof and alloy wheels. Volkswagen had earlier announced that the Tiguan would come in three body styles – as a five seater, a seven-seat version with a longer wheelbase and a sporty coupé-like version as well.
For India, Volkswagen will bring in the seven-seat Tiguan which will compete against the likes of the Honda CR-V, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Chevrolet Trailblazer and the Toyota Fortuner SUVs. The new seven-seater will be locally assembled to keep prices competitive. Power is likely to be sourced from the new Passat’s 187bhp 2.0-litre diesel engine.
The Tiguan is based on the Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform that underpins many current models and will be seen on future models as well, including the new Passat and the recently unveiled next-gen Audi A4 sedan. Volkswagen expects most of the global sales of the Tiguan to come from the front-wheel-drive variant. However, it will be sold with the company’s 4MOTION tech in a few markets. The new Volkwagen seven-seat Tiguan is likely to hit Indian showrooms mid-2016.
