McLaren MP4-29 Races Against 650S & Honda Civic Sport At Silverstone

Even though we’ve seen plenty of “F1 car vs. street car” videos, you have to admit, this sort of thing never really gets old.

Besides, generally speaking the F1 car has to beat more than just a regular car like say a hot hatch. Some times you’ve got genuine supercars like the McLaren 650S to worry about, which is no slouch.

So just to lay down what’s going on for you, it’s (seemingly) Jenson Button aboard a McLaren MP4-29, taking on the 650S, as well as a Euro-spec Honda Civic Sport.

To be clear, the MP4-29 was last year’s car, which means that yes, it was powered by a Mercedes engine, while the Honda Civic Sport is a more dynamic looking version than the standard car, boasting alloy pedals, 17″ sport alloy wheels and things of that nature.

You can also buy it for £19,615 as long as an 1.8 i-VTEC petrol unit is enough for you.

As for the McLaren 650S, well, it hardly needs any type of introduction. It’s got 650 PS, 678 Nm (500 lb-ft) of torque and it can hit a top speed of 329 km/h (204 mph). It will also accelerate to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3 seconds flat, which makes it a hell of a lot faster than that Honda Civic.

As usual, the F1 car starts the lap last, giving both the Honda as well as the 650S a 15 second head start (the 10 sec count-down starts after both cars get going). The painfully plain hatchback is reeled in by the F1 car almost instantly. In fact, the MP4-29 flew by the Civic in about 20 seconds, however, the 650S wasn’t going down without a fight.

You should definitely check out for yourselves how close this race was – though mind you, the head start makes it pretty unfair.

Here’s hoping next time they throw a McLaren P1 out there.

Note: Just like it says in the description, make sure to play the video in a Google Chrome browser (no IE or Firefox) or on your Android/iOS device. If you don’t, you won’t be able to enjoy the 360 degree camera trickery!
