The new Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are set to be luxury trim variants of a redesigned Grand Cherokee. That’s the word from Mike Manley, head of the Jeep brand.
Although the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer were originally expected to be completely separate models, comments from Manley suggest that the two will simply be high-grade trims on the Grand Cherokee. According to Automotive News, the new SUVs will debut after 2019. A redesigned Jeep Grand Cherokee will serve as the basis for the new SUVs. That redesign was pushed back to late 2018 or 2019.
Manley says the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer historically represent the best Jeep has to offer and will sit at the top of the brand’s range. Manley said that compared the use of the Wagoneer name to that of the Grand Cherokee’s Summit and Overland trims. The Grand Wagoneer name was last used in 1991.
