It’s Time To Get Excited About The Honda Civic Type R

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Trust us. When Honda unveiled the Civic Type R at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, it was obvious we were looking at a special car. The hot-hatch has a big presence for such a small car, but there is so much more than meets the eye. It’s the fastest front-wheel drive car to ever lap the Nurburgring, and the Japanese carmaker has just proclaimed “they R here!” in reference to the first production cars rolling off the production plant in Swindon, UK.

Honda invited us to join them on a ride up the hill climb at the Goodwood Festival of Speed last weekend, and British racing driver Jack Clarke was the guy tasked with getting us up there in one piece. Man, that guy can drive. Packing a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine rated at 306 hp, the Type R sprints to 0-62 mph in 5.7 seconds and can hit a top speed of 167 mph. It’s a truly impressive bit of kit and North Americans should start to get very excited about this car landing on their shores. Trust us, you are going to love it.
