Patent for mid-engine Honda sports car – Image via Autovisie
The trademark filing was made with the European Union Intellectual Property Office and is for the “ZSX” name. A search of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office shows Honda filed the ZSX name in 2008, though the trademark has expired and is yet to be renewed.
According to France’s TF1 (via Motor1), ZSX will be the name of a new sports car Honda is rumored to be working on. Citing a Honda engineering source, the French publication reports that a concept wearing an Acura badge will be unveiled next January at the 2017 Detroit auto show.
Patent drawings thought to hint at the car emerged in 2015. They showed a mid-engine model that resembled a scaled-down version of the current NSX.
Along with the patent drawings were reports claiming a mid-engine Honda sports car will arrive in 2018 and feature a hybrid system. The hybrid system was said to pair a turbocharged inline-4 with an electric motor for an output ranging from 300 to 400 horsepower.
Stay tuned for an update.
