The extremely popular Honda S660 might be introduced in a whole new market outside Japan, the United States, as a report is currently indicating.

The Honda S660 has turned out to be a highly popular budget sports car on its home market, Japan, so if you happen to consider importing one to the United States, you should probably wait a bit because the car manufacturer is currently considering adding such a model officially, across the nation. According to the guys from Edmunds, who are quoting the Honda Motor Executive vice president John Mendel, the company wants “some spice in the lineup” and they are currently considering adding such a model to North America.

“We’re looking at it intently for North America,” said John Mendel, executive vice president of American Honda, in a recent interview. “We want some spice in the lineup.”

Whether the new Honda S660 will actually make it to the U.S. shores is not exactly known at this point but we will remind you that in its current form, it has a 3-cylinder 660cc engine under its hood, which is capable of putting down a total of 64 HP (47 kW) and 104 Nm (77 lb-ft) of torque. The model has a rear mid-engine and rear-wheel drive layout, a 45/55 front / rear weight distribution, a removable top which can be stored in the trunk and a low center of gravity. Rumor has it that on the Old Continent a 1.0 liter turbocharged version will be introduced, as the Honda S1000, with 127 HP (95 kW).
