Honda has launched a small-batch recall campaign for the 2015-2016 Odyssey, the 2016 Pilot and the 2015-2016 Acura MDX.
The first signs of trouble emerged in October when workers spotted a fuel leak during a pre-delivery inspection.
“Honda and Yachiyo Manufacturing America (YMA) investigated the suspect fuel tank’s manufacturing records and found that the machinery indicated insufficient welds during assembly but the tank was manually judged to be okay,” the company noted in its recall documents.
The company in March received its first report of leaking fuel from a customer-owned vehicle in the field. Again, this tank had been robotically identified as suspect but manually approved for production.
YMA went back through its records and looked for each instance of manual override, resulting in a recall for just 39 vehicles sold in the US market. Each will receive a few fuel tank.
