Now, in its home market of Japan, a hybrid version of Honda’s family-freighter has gone on sale.
Borrowing its hybrid drivetrain for the Accord Hybrid, the Odyssey Hybrid employs a 2.0 litre four-cylinder petrol engine, combined with dual electric motors, and does without a traditional transmission, instead coupling the direct drive electric motor as a type of CVT.
Combined powertrain output is rated at 147kW and 307Nm, with fuel consumption (on the more lenient Japanese test cycle) rated at 3.85 l/100km.
A 1.3kWh lithium-ion battery resides beneath the first row of seats, meaning the Odyssey Hybrid maintains the regular seven or eight seat capacity of the regular hybrid, depending on specification.
Standard and Absolute models are available, with the Absolute also offering Honda Sensing, a safety suite that includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and autonomous emergency braking.
Pricing in Japan spans from ¥3,560,000 (A$42,920) to ¥4,056,400 ($48,920).
The Odyssey Hybrid joins hybrid versions of the Toyota Estima (sold here as the Tarago) and larger Alphard available in Japan.
Honda Australia has no plans at this stage to add the Odyssey Hybrid to its range, nor will the accompanying update seen on regular petrol versions in Japan be making its way to Australia this year.
