Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has commenced dispatches for the much awaited NAVI moto-scooter after first revealing the model at the 2016 Auto Expo earlier this year. The quirky new motorcycle underpinned by a scooter’s frame was quick to grab everyone’s attention, not only for its petite frame but also for its interesting price tag. That said, the Hond NAVI is offered at a starting price of 39,500 (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The NAVI has been completely developed by Honda’s Indian R&D division from the concept to the production stage and stands for “New additional Value for India.” The moto-scooter uses the same underpinnings as the highly popular Activa, while also retaining its 109cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine churning out 7.83hp of power at 7000rpm and 8.96Nm of torque at 5500rpm. Like the Activa, the NAVI also comes with an automatic transmission for hassle free commutes.
Other mechanical bits on the Honda NAVI include telescopic front forks at the front and hydraulic shock absorbers at the rear, while braking performance comes courtesy of 130mm drum brakes at the front and rear. While the motorcycle-scooter crossover design has piqued the interest levels on the NAVI, Honda is also offering a range of customization and modifications options on the two-wheeler, in a bid to connect more effectively with the young customer base. The automaker had also showcased a range of customisation options at the expo including a tourer among other derivatives.
Honda India has commenced the dispatches of the NAVI in a phased manner and the model is already available in Mumbai from March 16. The dealerships also promise to provide a more fun oriented experience for customers looking to purchase the NAVI and will also offer a host of customisation parts inside the showroom. Furthermore, Honda had also launched the NAVI application at the expo to generate more buzz about the model and the android app has registered over 20,000 downloads.
The Honda NAVI itself has received over 1000 bookings within a month of its reveal, keeping the company optimistic about its bold new offering. The new model will be available in five colour options including Patriot Red, Hopper Green, Shasta White, Sparky Orange and Black.
