It looked damn good and now Honda has released the full skinny complete with higher quality images. So let’s get to it. The 10th generation Civic will include a sedan, coupe, high-performance Si models, a 5-door hatchback and the first-ever Type-R for the US market. Power comes from two also entirely new engines: a 2.0-liter four-cylinder and an optional turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-four with direct injection.

The base engine is paired to either a six-speed manual or a CVT while the latter will only come with the CVT. Honda promises both engines will offer top-in-class performance and fuel efficiency; both are expected to receive EPA highway ratings above 40 mpg. Specific details such as horsepower figures will come at a later date. The new Civic sedan’s exterior design itself, while somewhat edgy for a conservative automaker, is a winner. It has a dramatic and more athletic stance with lower and wider proportions. We particularly dig the sleek and swept-back bodylines, a sharp and aggressive front face and bulging wheel arches.

Buyers can also opt for some nifty LED exterior lighting for the headlights, standard LED daytime running lights and C-shaped LED taillights. Honda has also taken pains to ensure ride quality (an issue with the outgoing Civic) this time around with a 25-percent increase in torsional rigidity and more extensive use of high-strength steel. Aerodynamic efficiency is also improved by 12 percent. All told, the new Civic is 68 lbs. lighter than before. Interior space is also up with an additional 3.7 cubic feet and 2 inches of additional rear legroom. Honda claims it’s the largest cabin in the compact segment. Trunk space has also been boosted by 2.6 cubic feet.

The dash is composed of higher quality materials as well, such as a one-piece, soft-touch instrument panel with molded stitching. The center console features a piano black finish and higher trim levels include an 8-way power driver’s seat, 4-way power front passenger seats, and heated front and rear seats. Production of the 2016 Civic will take place in Indiana and Ontario, Canada, while engines and gearboxes will be built in Ohio and Mexico. Official pricing will be announced closer to the live reveal.
