Honda Civic Type R made in the UK to be sold in Japan too image
The Honda Civic Type R, which is produced in the United Kingdom, will be exported to the Japanese market too.
Japanese looking to buy the new Honda Civic Type R generation will find out that the vehicle hasn’t been produced locally and it has been imported from the United Kingdom. The model is being put together at the Swindon plant, which will also get a new 200 million GBP investment. This will transform it into the global production hub of the next Civic 5-door generation.
“We’re delighted that the European Civic Type R will be sold to customers in Honda’s home country of Japan. Customers are really excited about this car and we’re developing a significant order bank here in Europe. Exporting the car to Japan will only serve to increase demand further, which is great news!”, said the Honda Motor Europe senior vice president, Philip Ross.
The first example of the new Honda Civic Type R generation has recently rolled off the assembly line at Swindon. The hot hatch is taking aim at the Volkswagen Golf R and the Ford Focus RS and it has been officially unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, back in March. It is making use of a 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which is capable of putting down a total of 310 HP (228 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. From 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) it needs 5.7 seconds and top speed stands at 270 km/h (167 mph).
