Dealer gouging is nothing new, and it looks like the 2017 Acura NSX will be the next hot ticket vehicle to fall victim to the unscrupulous selling tactic.
The 2017 Acura NSX is currently available for order at dealers nationwide with a starting price of $157,800 (including destination), but it will cost a fair bit more to buy the hybrid supercar from one dealer in New York. An ad has popped up on eBay offering a spot in line to buy the NSX for a cool $10,000.
Details surrounding the spot-holding offer are vague. The ad says the posting is from a “dealer located in NY,” but no specific business is named. The listing is out of Poughkeepsie, New York, but the only Acura dealer in the area, Acura of Wappingers Falls, told Leftlane News that it does not work with eBay.
However, placing a premium on the NSX likely won’t be unique to the mystery dealer operating on eBay. Although Acura of Wappingers Falls isn’t selling place holders for the NSX online, the dealership said final pricing of the supercar will be “determined once the vehicle is built based on market value,” indicating it has no plans to sell the sports car for it listed MSRP.
OEMs have taken a stand against pricing gouging in recent years, but it remains to be seen if Acura plans to take on the issue. We’ve reached out to Acura for comment, but have yet to hear back. We’ll be sure to update this space when more information is available.
