ASEAN-spec new Honda Civic takes shape
Honda revealed the all-new, ninth-generation Honda Civic in September last year followed shortly by the Civic coupé in November. The company is now developing an ASEAN-spec model for launch in Southeast Asian markets with a prototype being spotted in Thailand.
Images revealed of the prototype show that the car’s styling is expected to remain in line with the model unveiled last year with the sleek coupé-like design, the company’s flying H design language and a tailgate rear spoiler.
The test car was said to be powered by the new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol motor though the naturally aspirated 2.0-litre engine could also be on offer on the ASEAN-spec model. Gearbox duties are likely to be handled by a choice of a manual or CVT gearbox which will be offered in certain markets.
Features such as LED headlamps, dual-zone climate control, powered front seats, adaptive cruise control and a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are likely to be borrowed from the US-spec model.
There is no news if the ninth-gen model will mark the relaunch of the Civic brand in India.
Honda is also developing a Civic hatchback for the European markets with a concept model set to make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2016.
