Acura teases 2017 MDX for New York debut
Acura has released a teaser sketch for its 2017 MDX, due to make its formal debut next month at the New York International Auto Show.
The mid-cycle update promises to bring substantial styling changes, improved luxury, new powertrain options, more convenience features and a higher level of luxury.
“We are sharpening our focus on the Precision Crafted Performance DNA of the Acura brand and the 2017 MDX will integrate new styling elements and powertrain technology that takes us another step in that direction,” said American Honda VP John Mendel, without elaborating.
The MDX is Acura’s best-selling model, but deliveries dipped by nearly 12 percent in January. The crossover also experienced a drop in 2015 as sales fell to 58,208 units for the year, down from 65,603 vehicles in 2014.
Styling was handled by the Acura Design Studio in Torrance, California. The redesigned model appears to embrace a more sculpted and aggressive appearance.
Acura appears to be expecting a jump in sales, with plans to begin building the MDX in East Liberty, Ohio, to supplement primary production operations in Lincoln, Alabama.
More details will likely be released ahead of the March 23 unveiling.
