Acura CDX compact SUV revealed ahead of Beijing motor show

Images of a new compact SUV expected to be known as the Acura CDX, have surfaced online ahead of a planned Beijing motor show unveiling this week.

The so-called CDX takes a number of its styling cues from the recently-facelifted Acura MDX, showing a similar swooping roofline and the distinctive diamond grille that was designed for the MDX to introduce a much more sporty and aggressive demeanor.

Specific details about the CDX will remain unknown until its official debut, although reports suggest it could be based on the Honda HR-V or a similar platform.

The Chinese-market model will reportedly use Honda’s 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, producing 136kW of power and 240Nm of torque. An eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is expected to feature.

These images show the production model of Acura’s SUV-X Concept that was first unveiled at the Shanghai motor show back in 2013. When the concept was first revealed, it was the first time Honda’s luxury brand had introduced a concept model outside of North America.

Destined to be offered primarily in the Chinese market, the CDX is a joint venture between Honda and Guangzhou Automobile.

The CDX is expected to go on sale in the third quarter of this year, but as with the broader Acura brand, don’t expect to see it in local showrooms.
