2017 Kia Sedona joins Top Safety Pick Plus honorees
The 2017 Kia Sedona has been elevated to Top Safety Pick Plus status from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
The minivan had already received a Top Safety Pick award since the 2015 model year, with ‘good’ ratings in all five crashworthiness categories. Until recently, it lacked an automatic emergency braking (AEB) system — now necessary to qualify for Top Safety Pick Plus status.
“The addition of autobrake boosts the minivan’s front crash prevention rating from basic to superior,” the IIHS said in a statement.
When equipped with available AEB technology, the Sedona completely avoided collisions at both 12 mph and 25 mph.
The new Chrysler Pacifica is the only other minivan to earn TSP+ status this year. The Honda Odyssey, still lacking an AEB system, only qualifies for a Top Safety Pick award.
