2017 Honda NSX:: Australian models now in production

The long-awaited and much-anticipated 2017 Honda NSX supercar has finally commenced production in right-hand drive.

The hybrid-powered sports coupe has commenced production in Ohio at the brand’s Performance Manufacturing Centre in Marysville, ahead of its local arrival early in 2017.

Honda Australia director, Stephen Collins, said the new NSX’s production facility speaks volumes for the level of engineering expertise in the flagship model.

“Not only is the NSX an example of precision Honda engineering and design, the Performance Manufacturing Centre in Ohio is a state-of- the-art facility that defines the brand,” Collins said.

According to the brand, the NSX construction process includes a range of innovations, including “fully robotic MIG welding of the aluminium-intensive space frame”, as well as 14 hours of hand assembly by 16 technicians.

“Everything about the NSX has an air of exclusive craftsmanship and Honda precision about it. The master technicians at the Ohio facility embody the company’s commitment to ensuring the NSX is truly worthy of its title as the world’s most exciting hybrid supercar.”

The NSX will be priced at a staggering $420,000 plus on-road costs, and the first customer cars will arrive here next year.

“The NSX will be exclusive, but an important halo car for the brand,” Collins said.

The NSX is powered by a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 engine teamed to a nine-speed automatic transmission, as well as two electric motors at the front (one in each wheel) and a rear-mounted electric motor to overcome turbo lag.

The company claims each engine is balanced, bench tested and broken in to the equivalent of around 200 kilometres of service “to ensure that every NSX engine is track-ready upon customer delivery”.

There are five dedicated dealers for the NSX in Australia – find out where they are here.
