2017 Honda Civic hatch spotted undisguised at the docks

The next-generation Honda Civic hatchback has been spied completely undisguised in the UK.

These photos, originally posted on the CivicX.com forums, show the new hatch heading to or at the docks about to board a ship bound for the US. Americans will be able to buy a Civic hatch for the first time in two generations.

There aren’t any huge surprises with the look of the hatch. The styling was officially previewed by the Civic Hatchback Prototype at this year’s Geneva motor show in March, and has been followed by leaked patent renderings and further round of spy photos.

Compared to the sedan and the coupe, the UK-built five-door hatch features slightly more aggressive styling, with the bumpers at both ends featuring large fake air intakes.

From the B-pillar forward, the hatch and sedan have identical sheet metal. Behind this point, the hatch features a unique set of rear doors with styling that emphasises the rear wheel arches, and a much shorter rear overhang.

Although confirmed for Australia, Honda has yet to signal when the new five-door hatch will arrive in local showrooms.

The tenth-generation Civic sedan went on sale locally in June. Starting at $22,390 before on-road costs, the Civic sedan is available with a naturally aspirated 1.8-litre and a turbocharged 1.5-litre.

Unlike the current Civic hatch, which is based on a stretched version of the Jazz platform, the new model is a Civic through and through. Australia-bound hatches are expected to hail from Thailand rather than the UK.

The Civic Type R will debut at a later date, and isn’t expected to arrive in Australia until 2018.
