All 2016 Honda Pilot models will be powered by a 3.5-liter V-6 engine making 280 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, which has standard cylinder deactivation. Lower LX, EX, and EX-L trim levels come with a six-speed automatic transmission, and a new nine-speed automatic comes with the higher Touring and Elite trims. These two trims also come with a start/stop system that should improve city fuel economy; though we don’t yet have EPA numbers for the Pilot, expect a significant improvement over the current Pilot’s 20 mpg combined rating. As before, front- and four-wheel-drive versions will be offered on all trims. Standard features for the 2016 Honda Pilot LX include a backup camera, pushbutton start, Bluetooth, and three rows of seats affording 8-passenger capacity. To this, the EX adds the LaneWatch camera system, a power driver’s seat, a larger infotainment screen, and fog lights. Next is the Pilot EX-L, which gains a moonroof, a power tailgate, leather seating, heated front seats, and navigation.

The top two trims, Touring and Elite, come with the aforementioned 9-speed transmission, along with the Honda Sensing suite of active safety features, a rear entertainment system, a premium audio system, and USB ports for the rear seats. Finally, the range-topping 2016 Honda Pilot Elite also has LED headlights with automatic high-beams, blind-spot monitoring, rain-sensing wipers, a panoramic glass roof, a heated steering wheel and heated second-row captain’s chairs that reduce seating capacity to seven. Keep an eye out for more information to come on the 2016 Honda Pilot, such as pricing and EPA fuel economy, as we near its on-sale date in the next few months.
