2016 Honda Civic Spy Shot Cover AMAG
The Honda Civic Coupe concept from the New York auto show left us salivating for the next version of Honda‘s small car, and hoping that a production version wouldn’t be too far off. Recent spy shots of a Civic coupe prototype seem to suggest that the production model won’t fall too far from the concept car tree. Now that we’ve spied a prototype for the Honda Civic sedan testing in Southern California, we have even more proof that the concept’s dramatic looks will carry over to the showroom. As Honda is headquartered in Torrance, Calif., it makes sense to see it testing its prototypes on the freeway near its offices. We caught the 10th-gen Civic in full camouflage on the northbound I-405 near our El Segundo, Calif., offices, and from the few shots we were able to grab, we can make out a few key features.

Instead of full-width taillights, the Honda Civic sedan looks like it well get lamps positioned on the corners of the fenders that spill over the top of the trunk lid. The 2016 Honda Civic will ride on a new platform and will use new powertrains, including a turbocharged 1.5-liter I-4. In addition to the coupe and sedan that we’ve now spied, Honda also plans to offer a 5-door hatchback version of the next Civic in the U.S. market. While we can’t see much else on this prototype, leaked patent sketches give us a better idea of the look of the 2016 Honda Civic. Online forum CivicX.com recently posted patent drawings of the 2016 Honda Civic that show a car that very closely matches up to the 2016 Honda Civic sedan spied here. Expect more details on the new Civic later this year. Photo Credit: Rusty Kurtz
