The exact time for the double-headed unveiling hasn’t yet been announced, but the events will occur at the same time, so journalists on each coast will be on equal footing.
Though even after the wraps come off, we’re still going to have more questions than answers about the 10th-generation of the company’s venerable economy car. That’s because next month’s proceedings will deal solely with the four-door variant, meaning we’ll have to wait a bit longer for news about the coupe, hatch, and sporty Si and U.S.-spec Type R versions.
Essentially, these events are just set up to provide a look at the sedan’s lines and interior. So there won’t be any news about the new turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder with VTEC variable valve timing either—the motor’s specifications will follow in October. But we can confirm a manual six-speed will be offered, along with an optional CVT.
Spicier Si and the eagerly anticipated Type R versions will get 2.0-liter VTEC turbo units.
From the spy shots we’ve covered previously, we can see the sheet metal is set to be sportier than the outgoing model’s. And the redesigned interior is sure to feature expanded connectivity for Apple and Android phones, but currently, specifics are still thin.
More news when we have it. Stay tuned.
