2016 Beijing Motor Show: Honda Avancier

Last year the Japanese automaker presented a quirky model – Concept D – and now the production series model has been presented officially during the Auto China 2016.

Usually the prototypes look way better than the final product but this time around we might just have a case of backwards engineering – the production model has transitioned to be the looker of the two. Honda has a history of delivering quirky models, which is why we weren’t actually expecting to have a rather odd concept morph into a sensible and usable production model – we were expecting matter to take a turn for the worse. This didn’t happen and now the Avancier is here – though it won’t get the Red Dot design award, we are certainly looking at an improvement.

By the way, the name of the midsize crossover might seem familiar – and this is because the automaker actually used the nameplate back in the day at home for a five-seat wagon sold between 1999 and 2003. Now the new Avancier is here as the flagship of the company in China, with the Japanese for the first time deploying a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine in the country. The automaker has been rather coy on specific technical details, with more info to be shared in the months to come when the model gets closer to the actual market launch. From what we can tell, the Avancier comes nicely equipped with LED headlights and taillights, tri-zone climate control, large infotainment screen, enhanced rear space and leather upholstery.
